Batgirl HBO Max Film Ropes In Bad Boys For Life And Ms. Marvel Directors
The Batgirl movie has found its directors in Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
The duo behind the police-comedy film Bad Boys For Life and the upcoming Ms. Marvel Disney+ series replaces Joss Whedon, who stepped off the project back in April 2018. Penning the script is Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson and producing the movie is Kristin Burr, who’s currently gearing up for the release of Disney’s Cruella .
“With Batgirl, we hope to take the audience on a fun ride and see a different side of Gotham,” said Burr. “Christina’s script is crackling with spirit. Adil and Bilall have an excited and joyous energy, which is infectious, making them the perfect filmmakers for this Batproject. And I’m just psyched I get to be part of the DC universe, which is super cool.”
Whilst not much else is known about the Batgirl movie, the film will follow Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon.
Many characters have played the superhero, but Gordon is the most prominent and established. First appearing as Betty Kane in the 1961 comics, the superhero was later revamped in 1967 to attract a female audience to the Batman TV series.
Gordon’s last big-screen live-action appearance was in the 1996 Batman & Robin movie. Within the world of Warner Bros and DC Entertainment, Gordon came to her superhero identity in Harley Quinn animated series and is set to appear in the third season of Titans .
With El Arbi and Fallah on the project, Batgirl is set to be a joyride that could potentially expand the DCEU and shape it into a new direction. This is especially since Batgirl was originally part of Zack Snyder’s Snyderverse plans.
Whilst no talents are attached to the project, rumours in 2019 suggest that Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley was the top pick to don the suit.
Batgirl is also reported to receive a HBO Max release.
